The camera is designed to allow users to take selfie pictures more SAFELY and COMFORTABLY even in dynamic situations. The application service based on camera enables users to enjoy and share their photos through connected SNS platform.

OVERVIEW

People like to save and share their memory through Social Network System(SNS), especially, selfie photos. Many people try to save themselves even in the dynamic moments, such as playing in the water or riding a rollercoaster. However, current cameras are not suitable for selfie photos in those situations. Thus, we designed SELFIT.

After downloading the SELFIT application, users can easily pair their SELFIT camera with the mobile app through Bluetooth.

Users can shoot selfie photos easily with SELFIT camera. The photos are saved into the application.

Photos and videos taken by SELFIT are saved in the smartphone using the app. It offers A DIRECT CONNECTION with other SNS platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, which helps users share the photos or videos with just a few touches. The SELFIT app offers information about THE REMAINING BATTERY LIFE AND MEMORY. Furthermore, users can select suitable photo ratios.

RESEARCH

HOW DO PEOPLE TAKE SELFIES?

More and more people are sharing their lives with friends or families through Social Network Service(SNS) and we found that most contents usually include SELFIES. As we wanted to understand the process people use to shoot and share photos, we invited several heavy camera users and strong SNS users. We asked them 'What do they think of existing cameras' and 'What preparations do they make when they visit somewhere'. They shared a number of experiences in detail and we categorized them into three types: good, so-so, and bad.

Then we conducted in-depth personal interviews with EIGHT GROUP OF USERS and they can be divided into six groups. The 'Lead Users' are a group of people who have advanced needs and ones that may not be met by existing cameras, just like early adopters. They must either tolerate their unmet needs or innovate themselves to address them. It was not easy to find 'Lead Users'. 'Users' are a group of normal people who use existing cameras without any specific expectations or advanced needs.

We gained three huge insights through the research and organized them into three types.

INSIGHT 01

Most people are satisfied with smartphone camera specifications when they take selfies. It means we do not have to pursue higher resolution or better photo quality than smartphone cameras can offer.

INSIGHT 02

Sudden shooting in unexpected or dynamic situations is difficult for all existing cameras, including smartphones.

INSIGHT 03

Waterproofing is required to take a picture in water, but most existing cameras do not offer this function.

PAINPOINT SCENARIO

Based on the experiences that the interviewees shared, I drew up three main scenarios for the existing limitations that we had to focus on.

01. WHILE RIDING A ROLLERCOASTER

Smartphones are not suitable for taking selfies in dynamic situations. It takes a quite long time to turn on the camera app as it can be a complex process. Some people have tried to take photographs in dynamic situations, but it can be very dangerous and could cause miserable results.

02. WHILE PLAYING IN THE WATER

There is a waterproof plastic pack in which to carry the camera. However, it is uncomfortable and restricts functionality. The touchscreen does not work well inside the plastic pack. Because they are worrying that water will get into the pack, people do not fully enjoy the water activity.

03. WHILE RIDING A BIKE

It is very dangerous to take a selfie with a smartphone while riding a bike. However, stopping the bike to take selfies is also annoying and not as much fun.

CONCEPT

People love to take selfies, even in certain situations that are difficult to shoot with existing cameras. By improving the shape, portability, and speed of the camera shots, we wanted to make it possible for them to take selfies in active situations.

She enjoys sharing the photos through SNS. She loves to buy hot items or something she likes regardless of the price.

- Life Style: He grew up in a middle-class family environment and, is living a stable life now. He likes sports activities and has also joined cycling clubs. He likes natural pictures rather than planned ones. While enjoying sports, he wants to take pictures of vivid situations. However, he feels that existing cameras have limitations.

Before drawing sketches, we tried to put on other sample wearable products to learn how to achieve comfortability and to find out which position the camera module and buttons have to be placed in. The product in the photos is a wearable laser controller for the presenter made by GENIUS.

The first design renderings experienced various problems. They were too small and thin for installing the functions we needed. In addition, it seemed that the criteria by which they were divided into premium and universal categories were not clear. We came to the conclusion that the two designs should be identified using a concrete roll, and THE DEGREE OF ACTIVENESS TO WHICH THEY WERE SUITED. By designing one for more active situations while designing the other for less active situations, we could use diverse materials and shapes for the products.

While riding a roller coaster or a bike or even enjoying a sport, users can save their every moment RIGHT AWAY with a PORTABLE camera SELFIT. Moreover, they can share their photos with friends or family members whenever they want. SELFIT can help users SAVE MEMORIES and PROMOTE HAPPINESS.
